Or, they're crazy people. Crazy people, by definition, are not rational. It is well past the time that we stop pretending crazy people can function in normal society. The mass shooting phenomenon is, in part, our refusal to admit that crazy people are crazy.
Or, alternatively, some of the "crazy" ideological mixes are actually the truth, and our society refuses to acknowledge them for political reasons.
